Torito de Cacahuate (Peanut Torito)

Torito is a traditional alcoholic drink from the state of Veracruz. Its origins date back to the post-revolutionary period in Mexico (1920-1930), when day laborers harvesting sugar cane, after exhausting days of work, prepared a drink made from sugar cane liquor and fruits or nuts. After drinking it, they said they felt strong and invigorated like "bulls", which is why they gave it the name torito (little bull). The recipe for this artisanal drink has been passed down from generation to generation until today, in which entire families are known for its elaboration. Toritos come in many flavors, such as coconut, soursop or coffee, even lemon, but the most famous is undoubtedly peanut. Here we share with you a family recipe all the way from Veracruz. We hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients:

for 1 liter of torito:

50g unsalted peanuts

4 tablespoons peanut butter

400ml sweetened condensed milk

250ml unsweetened condensed milk

2 tablespoons vanilla extract

250ml sugar cane liqueur or rum

50g banana

ice to taste

Preparation:

Toast the peanuts in a pan until golden brown, being careful not to burn them or the drink will turn bitter.

Mix the condensed milk, peanuts, vanilla and peanut butter in a blender and process on medium speed until the ingredients are combined.

Continue blending and gradually add the liqueur. Blend for a few more minutes until it reaches a creamy consistency.

The torito is ready! Enjoy it in a glass with ice or at room temperature or warm in winter.

NOTE: We recommend using natural peanut butter without sweetener.
