Makes one large or two small glasses
1 cup (approx. 60g) dried hibiscus flowers
3 cups of water (750ml)
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/4 cups white tequila (to taste)
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1/3 cup Triple Sec or other orange-flavored liqueur
Ice frappeé
Slices of lemon or lime
Tajín (ground chile with salt and lime)
Put the flowers in a sieve and rinse them with cold water. Now put the flowers, water and sugar in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain the liquid and discard the flowers or use them to garnish a green salad. Store the hibiscus water in the refrigerator until ready to use.
To rim the glass with the tajín, place the chili powder in a small flat dish, drizzle the rim of the glass with a little lime juice, and then place the glass upside down on top of the tajín powder.
Finally, mix the hibiscus water, tequila, lime juice and triple sec with frappé ice and pour into the tajín-rimmed glass. Garnish with lime slices and enjoy!
