Hibiscus Margarita

One of the most famous and traditional drinks in Mexico is the Margarita cocktail. It is not only delicious and very refreshing, but also very versatile, as it can be prepared in countless variations. Here we share with you our recipe for a hibiscus Margarita, one of our all-time favorites! We hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients:

Makes four large glasses or six to eight small glasses

1 cup (approx. 60g) dried hibiscus flowers

3 cups of water (750ml)

3/4 cup sugar

1 1/4 cups white tequila (to taste)

1/2 cup fresh lime juice

1/3 cup Triple Sec or other orange-flavored liqueur

Ice frappeé

Slices of lemon or lime

Tajín (ground chile with salt and lime)

Preparation:
  1. Place the hibiscus flowers in a colander and rinse them thoroughly under cold water. Transfer them to a medium-sized saucepan along with the water and sugar, then bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
  2. Strain the liquid through a fine-mesh strainer. The flowers can be discarded or set aside to garnish a green salad (the flowers are edible and add a delicious touch to the salad). Store the hibiscus syrup in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  3. Place the chili powder in a small, shallow dish. Moisten the rim of the glass with a little lime juice and then dip the glass upside down into the chili powder so that the rim is evenly coated.
  4. Finally, combine the hibiscus syrup, tequila, lime juice and triple sec with crushed ice. Pour the cocktail into the prepared glass and garnish with lime slices. Serve immediately and enjoy.
